Trent University is regarded as one of the best in Canada. Ontario's then-premier, John Robarts, authorized the foundation of Trent University in the area. Trent University has an annual economic effect of $77 million in the Durham area and is the third biggest employer in Peterborough. On each of its two major campuses, Trent University offers students a transforming experience. The Peterborough (Symons) campus is located on the banks of the Otonabee River and has outstanding structures and scenic surroundings. This campus, which covers over 1400 acres, is around an hour and a half from downtown Toronto.
