Overview

The GMAT Full Form (Graduate Management Admission Test) is a standardised test intended to measure the candidates’ aptitude in verbal, analytical writing and mathematics. It is a commonly used exam reviewed by top business schools in the world to gain entrance into their management programs. The GMAT is normally offered by computer only, but in a few areas in the world where computer networks are limited or not available, candidates can opt for a paper-based test.

Our test consists of four sections as discussed before. They are: verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, integrated reasoning and analytical writing. Overall, the test take3s three and one half hours to complete and is out of a total of 800 points. Started in the year 2012, It is also used to assess a candidate’s critical reasoning skills as well as logic that are applicable to the business and management in the real world scenarios.

It is roughly estimated that more than 200,000 B-schools around the world use the GMAT scores to assess the candidates to their business management programs. It has recommended that the GMAT be used as one factor amongst others for the purpose of determining if or not a candidate is accepted into a management program.

While the GMAT does test facts and rules, combining with grammar and quantitative concepts in statistics, geometry, algebra and arithmetic; the exam is nothing but a test of one’s critical thinking skills that are fundamental for studying management. The GMAT Test a candidate’s ability to analyze and evaluate quart as well as verbal material. It also tests how a candidate can think logically and solve issues under the limited time frame.

Eligibility
Any candidate who wants to study management programs is 18-year or above can apply for the GMAT exam. If a candidate is between 13-17 years of age, he can also apply for the exam after providing written approval or consent by his legal guardians, preferably parents.

  • Age Limit - If it is the age limit of GMAT Exam, then the good news is there is no upper age limit for this exam. The minimum age limit, as discussed above, is 18 years. However, it has been reported that less than 18 years of age also sat for GMAT after taking approval or consent from their legal guardians.

  • Academic Qualifications - As such candidates need not have any minimum qualification or any degree for appearing in the GMAT. Furthermore, it has been seen that the majority of candidates are final year undergraduate students or working professionals who want to take up a management program further.

  • Score Eligibility - There is no such GMAT score eligibility set by the council. As such, there are no minimum cut-off marks required for taking the GMAT. Though the score eligibility differs from B-School to B-School, it is suggested to check the minimum score eligibility while applying to the B-School.

The pattern for the GMAT exam comprises both subjective and objective questions. GMAT is a computer-adaptive test. Candidates are asked to answer a total of 80 questions within specified time duration i.e. 3 hours and 7 minutes. The total GMAT scores range from 200 to 800. Two-thirds of test takers score between 400 and 800. You will be able to see your unofficial scores immediately after completing the exam and then have an opportunity to accept or cancel those scores.

GMAT preparation materials are available in many places, including offline and online mode. The best source of GMAT preparation material is the official GMATPrep Software that you can easily download from your registered account via the official website. Also, there are various books available for preparation.

Each section of the GMAT test is important, the skills that you will require in a business school while study and in career. The test splits into 4 sections, namely: Analytical writing assessment, Integrated reasoning section, Quantitative section and Verbal section. As with any important exam, here also in GMAT, candidates are judged with the tests, so they must be thoroughly familiar with the syllabus of the exam before they start preparing for the examination.

As said before, you can take the exam up to 5 times in a year. But you can’t take the test more than once in a 16 days period or more than 8 times in total. It doesn’t not matter how many times you retake the GMAT if your scores improve each time, and business schools don’t look at it. It is roughly estimated that about a 3rd of the students retake the exam. It is seen that about 10 percent of the applicants take the exam 3 or more times.

Yes, you can reschedule your GMAT appointment by visiting the official GMAT website and login into your personal GMAT account, but you need to pay a certain amount of fee for that. If you want/need to reschedule your GMAT more than 7 days before your appointment, you need to pay $50. Whether you need/want to reschedule 7 days or lesser before your appointment, the fee would be $250.
