The University of Pennsylvania, sometimes known as UPenn, is founded in 1740. Penn University (UPenn) is situated in Philadelphia and is one of the oldest universities in the United States, having been established by Benjamin Franklin. The graduate and professional programmes are taught by 12 schools on one campus, including the Annenberg School of Communication, the School of Dental Medicine, the Stuart Weitzman School of Design, the Graduate School of Education, Penn Carey Law, the Perelman School of Medicine, the School of Social Policy & Practice, and the School of Veterinary Medicine, in addition to the four mentioned above. Among its numerous achievements, the University of Pennsylvania established the nation's first medical school in 1765, the first university teaching hospital in 1874, and the Wharton School, the world's first college business school, in 1881.
