In early 2022, the government announced a 5-stage New Zealand border opening scheme. The key dates included: 27 Feb 2022: Some essential expats and native people in NZ who were fully vaccinated were allowed to enter or travel sans MIQ (Managed Isolation and Quarantine system). 13 March 2022: Most temporary visa holders, for instance, working holiday makers, or seasonal workers who were in dire need at the time, could enter without isolation. 14 April 2022: International students to study in New Zealand became part of a “border class exemption,” allowing up to 5k students to enter with quarantining rules relaxed, according to some reliable sources.
