Why Choose

Oxford University Medical School?

The college system at Oxford, in my opinion, is quite unusual. This means that many of the people you meet at university are studying something other than medicine. Aside from that, the campus climate is incredibly supportive, which means you have a personal relationship with many of your teachers (as there are often only two others in your tutorial). This means that it is nearly impossible to be lost for an extended period of time without someone noticing and helping.

The collegiate system also allows you to participate in sports on a more informal basis by joining your college team. The 8-week periods are another feature that distinguishes Oxford. Medical students attend university only for three 8-week terms per year for the first three years. This gives students the opportunity to do internships or even travel during their long breaks. However, because the topic must still be covered, those eight weeks will be very demanding. It should be noted, however, that holidays drop considerably during clinical years.

Students Life at Oxford University Medical School

checkbox

Oxford University Medical School’s medics usually start the day with a 9 a.m. lecture, so don't expect many lie-ins (though the occasional one is wonderful). We'll typically have three-hour-long lectures followed by a practical (histology, pharmacology, physiology labs, DR, and so on) organized centrally by the MSTC.

checkbox

They'd also have a 1-2 hour lesson throughout the day, usually in the evening, for which we'd have to have produced a 1,200ish word essay. Tutorials are where you complete the majority of your individual research and learning in the form of essays, yet they are significantly more exciting and engaging than lectures.

checkbox

Food has also been a significant element of my day-to-day university experience. After lectures/practicals, I would usually go to work in the Kendrew Café, our college's on-site café with nice, huge tables in a light, open room. - It's a perfect workspace, and the food/drinks are reasonably priced! Green's Café is right across the street from John's, which is my go-to for a hangover brunch.

checkbox

Green is also nearby and serves pretty good lunch cuisine, and there are other eateries where you can get discounts! John's is fantastic since it is so centrally located, and everything for your undergrad is within walking distance!
