Almost 93 years ago, the republic government of Uzbekistan established Samarkand State Medical University in 1930. Since there was no autonomous medical higher education institution in that region, this was a major event for the people of Central Asia.
With tireless efforts toward perfection, a "National Plan of Training" was established by the nation in 1997, followed by a "State Programme of Health Care Reform" in 1998, both of which led to the founding of a Faculty of Higher Nursing in 1999. It means this university has played a crucial role since before the inception of this century. In 2001, the Faculty of Medical Pedagogy was established. In 2005, the faculties of stomatology, medical preventative medicine, medical biology, and pharmacy were established. The following years saw the introduction of a new course for students named "Traditional Medicine."
