Princeton University is the fourth-oldest college or university in the United States. It was founded in 1746 as the College of New Jersey. Princeton University is a prestigious research institution and an Ivy League school. Twenty different people have served as president of the institution from colonial times to the present day. After spending a total of ten years between Elizabeth and Newark, the College of New Jersey finally settled at Princeton in 1756. The College of New Jersey became Princeton University in 1896.

All housing students are provided with on-campus housing. Every residential college houses students from all four class years, as well as a few alumni.
