The oldest department at SibMed is the Department of General Medicine, which has a lengthy history and a wealth of scientific traditions. In terms of annual graduations, it is SibMed's largest department. More than 400 people work on the teaching faculty. These notable medical professionals hold doctoral and "candidate of science" degrees. Many of them split their time between teaching and performing clinical work at University Hospital and other healthcare facilities in the Tomsk Region. Working is permitted while enrolled in any full-time course at Siberian State Medical University for international students travelling to Russia. Studying for the degree takes four years. There are two categories for specialist degrees. Paediatrics and general medicine require six years of study to earn specialist degrees.
