It is a public university located on the west coast of Canada with campuses located in the traditional territories of Snuneymuxw, Quw'utsun, Tla'amin, Snaw-naw-as, and Qualicum First Nations. It began operations as a Federal-Provincial Youth Training Center in 1938. We have adapted to the needs of our community over the years. In the 1950s, we began to attract international attention for innovation and hands-on learning. In 1969 we became the College of Malaspina. April 2008 saw the transition to Vancouver Island University. Today, they are a full-fledged university with a compelling academic program, and true to our roots, we continue to offer careers and vocational training.

It operates with one main campus, two other campuses, the Cowichan and Powell River campuses, and a center in Parkville. Nanaimo's main campus overlooks the ocean spread across 92 usable acres. The university has a 100,000-square-foot library that offers print and online materials.

They accepts applications from international students whether they apply directly to the school or through an authorized representative. Students can also participate in exchange programs between government-sponsored organizations or winners of competitions and scholarships. It has more than 14,500 students, of which 2,000 are international students from more than 93 countries. The majority of foreign students come from India, Japan, China, Vietnam, Mexico, Germany, USA, Iran and other countries.

Application processing fees can be paid via Visa, Mastercard, or American Express. The school also accepts checks, money orders, and wire transfers. For all international students, the application fee is 150 CAD (9,332 INR) for all graduate and postgraduate programs.

Applications are processed only after the application fee has been paid and all supporting documents are received. Students can expect a processing time of 2 to 8 weeks depending on the number of applications received, especially for master's programs and limited access programs. The decision will be communicated to accepted students by mail.

VIU only offers on-campus housing in Nanaimo. The university's residence halls accommodate more than 500 students each year in the university's 10 residential buildings.
