Marshall University is a private institution in West Virginia. It was established in 1837 as Marshall Academy and is named after John Marshall, the fourth Chief Justice of the United States. The Marshall University reputation has grown over time as a result of its strong research output and rural healthcare delivery initiatives. The main campus of the Marshall University is situated in Huntington and spans about 114 acres. Marshall University is a regional university with a substantial presence in West Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio. It also serves communities across the United States and beyond the globe. The metropolitan region of Huntington-Ashland-Ironton has a population of 365,000 people. Marshall University is comprised of the Huntington Campus, Marshall Medical Center, Forensic Science Center, Visual Arts Center, School of Physical Therapy, School of Pharmacy, South Charleston Campus, Mid-Ohio Valley Center, Teays Valley Regional Center, and Erma Byrd Higher Education Center.

There are approximately 395 student athletes at the Marshall University.Marshall University's sports team, dubbed "The Herd," excels in the field and provides equal opportunities for men and women to compete. The Rec provides 32 intramural sports, including soccer, basketball, flag football, dodgeball, and wiffle ball, as well as 10 club sports. Hockey, Men's and Women's Rugby, Tennis, Sports fencing club, men's and women's lacrosse, cycling, wrestling, and equestrian are among the sports provided to students.

There are about 230 clubs and groups for students at Marshall University, such as the Anime and Manga Association, the Climbing Club, the Anthropology Club, and so on. Several community outreach and volunteer service activities are set up so that the students can grow as a whole. There are many adventure recreation activities on campus, such as water sports, competitive sports, fitness activities, and wellness activities. After receiving a permit, all students are permitted to bring their automobiles onto campus. Marshall University’s alumni are the Marshall family's heart and soul. They became Fortune 500 CEOs, Pulitzer Prize winners, and heavyweights in industry, science, education, and the arts. Some of the famous graduates are the football player Randy Moss, the actress Conchata Ferrell, the basketball player Hal Greer, the football coach Byron Leftwich, and others.
