The Republic of Belarus' social landscape started to actively develop in the years following World War II. 250 students were accepted for the academic year 1958–1959 at the State Medical Institute in Grodno, which was founded to enhance medical services, provide medical training, and conduct medical research in Belarus' western area. According to the Belorussian SSR Ministry of Health's decision No. 75 of August 14, 1958, this was in conformity with Decree No. 541, issued by the BSSR Council of Ministers on August 9, 1958.
Anyone who is unfamiliar with the operations of an educational institution may find it difficult to comprehend the enormous amount of labour involved in starting a new one from scratch. It's a pleasure to respectfully honour all who contributed to this intricate process. The institute was founded with the assistance of researchers and medical professionals from Russia, Ukraine, the Baltic States, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. Both the Minsk Medical Institute and the Vitebsk Medical Institute contributed manpower and logistical support. The Grodno medical staff participated in the execution of the educational procedure.
After many years, it is impossible to forget that Grodno State Medical Institute's first courses began on October 1, 1958. D.M. Golub, a professor at the Minsk Medical Institute, gave the opening talk. Its focus was on human anatomy. The Academic Council's inaugural meeting took place on October 15. It is important to note that for the nine newly created departments, there were only 7 associate professors and science candidates working there during the first semester, with a total staff size of little more than 30.
