The Florida Institute of Technology was founded in 1958 as the Brevard Engineering College and did not get its current name until 1966. The Florida Institute of Technology, usually known as FIT or Florida Tech, is a private, non-profit research and doctorate institution located in Melbourne. The Florida Institute of Technology, sometimes known as Florida Tech, is the state's STEM university. What began as a 37-cent "patronage" for a night school has grown to become one of the most comprehensive, research-intensive private institutions in the United States.
