Pursuing higher education in India and abroad can differ greatly from country to country, and MBBS course fees vary based on the current trends in admission at institutions. Knowing about the fees to pursue an MBBS from a university has become a paramount factor in determining which country students would like to choose for their higher education.
The NEET 2025 exams are over, and some students are looking for admissions in Indian universities, while others are looking for details on the financial considerations to study MBBS abroad. We will look at the details regarding the MBBS course fees to understand the financial parameters. Let’s look at the general fees in the universities of India and abroad, further trying to understand the cost of study MBBS abroad.
In India, admission for the MBBS is done for the three different kinds of institutions - government, private, and deemed. The students who want to study in either of these institutions for their MBBS degree, take a look below to learn more about the fee structure.
The MBBS course fees in government medical colleges in India cost about ₹1,00,000 to ₹2,00,000. Pursuing the MBBS program from a government institution is very affordable compared to the private colleges, since the entire duration of the program can be covered with the total cost of ₹1,00,000-2,00,000, which often includes other incurred expenses. This is the reason why the competition to crack NEET exams (the gateway to admission in the public medical colleges) is very tough, resulting in a lower cut-off in NEET 2025.
The MBBS course fees in private medical colleges in India can be between ₹42,00,000 and ₹1,80,00,000 annually. To pursue an MBBS program from the private medical institutions in India, the minimum budget of a student should be ₹60,00,000-₹65,00,000 for the entire duration of the program, and the maximum budget should go up to ₹2 crore for the NRI and management admissions. The tuition fees for a merit-based private college range from ₹7 lakh to ₹20 lakh per year.
The MBBS course fees in deemed medical colleges based on merit can range between ₹10,00,000 and ₹30,00,000 per year. Deemed medical colleges in India are independently operated medical institutions, and cost more than even public universities/colleges, but lower than the private ones. The minimum budget for an NRI-based admission in a deemed college is ₹90 lakh to ₹2 crore.
In comparison to the cost of the MBBS in India, the cost of studying MBBS abroad might be worth it. For relatively similar MBBS course fees, pursuing MBBS in Europe or other parts of the world would be very different from studying MBBS in India. While Indian government medical colleges are good in offering academic quality with a theoretical base for further specialisation during the postgraduate journey, the lack of experienced faculty, infrastructure, and practical exposure makes it difficult to consider them for the practical value in terms of real-world application and clinical training.
At the same range of the MBBS course fees of private universities in India, Indian students would be able to study similarly in a public university in a different country. The quality of education in public universities in foreign countries is very high compared to that in India because of the issues with a lack of facilities and faculty. Below is a quick representation of the MBBS course duration and fees for Indian students. The cost is in Indian currency to show how much it will cost when studying in different countries.

As we understood, the cost of pursuing an MBBS in the public/government institutions is lower than the private institutions of India. Where public universities have the MBBS course fees of ₹1 lakh to ₹2 lakh for the entire duration of the program, the private universities have a higher cost, ranging from ₹42 lakh to a whopping ₹2 crore approximately. The same differences in fees among public universities and private colleges exist for foreign students.
However, the catch here is that the quality of education will be better than what Indian students get in most public universities at a way lower cost than private universities. For example, public universities in Russia cost in the range of ₹16 lakh to ₹34 lakh, depending on the particular university, whereas the MBBS course fees in private colleges of Russia can range from ₹1 crore to ₹6 crore.
The students will get a higher level of education in the public universities of Russia with affordable tuition fees, comparatively lower than private universities in India, but providing modern infrastructure and practical exposure to clinical trials and medical procedures. Russia is one of the examples; there are other countries with the same scenario, and ensure that students from India get the right education opportunities to become doctors.
MBBS course fees are different in each country, and different among the universities themselves. Some of the universities have increased their costs considerably due to the high application and demand for admission. The competition to get admission in public universities of India is tough, and private universities can cost between ₹70 lakh and ₹2 crore. At a relatively similar range (even lower), options are available in the foreign public universities.
Depending on the MBBS course duration and fees of each country, the students make their own choices. Keeping in mind that admission season is here, studying MBBS abroad is a worthwhile experience for all Indian students as it allows them to get a higher level of education with international exposure and a primary focus on providing real clinical training. About 25-30 Indian students are choosing to study MBBS abroad every year, on average.
