These days MBBS Abroad is popular among Indian medical students, it is due to the limitations of MBBS in India. But the major one is, that India consists of high competition due to insufficient medical seats and multiple quota reservations. The Foreign Medical Graduates Examination also renowned as the FMGE Exam maintains the quality and aura of the medical education. It examines the knowledge and clinical experience of the students who wish to practice medicine in India after qualifying for an MBBS from Abroad. Students are supposed to qualify for this exam to become eligible to practice medicine in India.
FMGE stands for Foreign Medical Graduates Examination, a medicine licensing exam in India. It is conducted by the National Board of Examination (NBE). It was introduced in India in March 2002. It is conducted twice a year in June and December. All Indian and OCI-holder students who want to practice medicine in India after qualifying for an MBBS from Abroad. These students must qualify for the FMGE exam. However, soon it is going to be replaced with the NExT examination.
FMGE is a licensing examination in India that checks the credibility of the knowledge and skills of the students. This examination is responsible for maintaining the standard among medical students in India. It ensures the credibility and authenticity of a medical degree.
The Frequency of the FMGE examination is twice a year in June and December. It does not restrict students with age restrictions and number of attempts.

Students can choose any of the FMGE Exam Centers according to their requirements.
The FMGE Admit Card is the major requirement while appearing for the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination on the exam day. The students must download their admit card and carry it to the examination centre for the Examination.
The Admit Card for FMGE Examinations is released on the official website of FMGE India in the admit card section. Students are required to visit the site and download their FMGE Exam admit card and make them print to carry in physical documents while appearing for the FMGE exam in India.
Before preparing for any exam, students must be aware of the FMGE Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme of that exam. The students having a detailed knowledge of the Exam Pattern can probably score more compared to unaware ones.
The FMGE Exam is majorly categorized into 2 papers, both of them conducted for 150 marks. Each one of them will be conducted in 150 minutes, which means the total duration would be 300 minutes (5 hours).

The FMGE Result date is declared by the National Board of Examination. However, students need to stay aware of the marks required to qualify for the FMGE Examination.
The students who pursued MBBS or its equivalent can get the practice license in India after qualifying for the FMGE Exam. It is the only method to get an Indian medical license. It is one of the most challenging exams for medical students.
If we talk about the FMGE Pass percentage, In Dec 2024, 28.86% of students qualified for the FMGE Exam. It is not a competitive exam and does not consist of variable cutoffs like the NEET exam. Its qualifying marks are fixed at 50%. The student has to attain more than 150 marks in the exam out of 300 marks.
