Have you decided to study at MBBS in Russia? All your questions are answered except the one – what is the licensing exam in Russia after MBBS for Indian students? Don’t worry you are not alone! Hundreds of thousands of Indian medical aspirants ask the same question. Here we have got you covered.
Without wasting much of your valuable time, we will go straight to the answer.
Here is your question – What is the licensing exam in Russia after MBBS for Indian students? Or, is there any licentiate exam after MBBS in Russia?
The answer is “yes”. You have to clear a licentiate exam. Before that, let’s understand the type of exams.
First, you should understand the Medical Education System in Russia to make sure you are eligible to appear in the licensing exam in India after completing your MBBS from Russia.
Russia follows a combination of the European System, including the old Soviet System. So you are required to clear 2-sage exams in Russia before you apply for Indian licensing exam.
Russia doesn’t follow any separate internship system, unlike India. Normally, the GOZZ/GOSS exam is conducted in the final year of (MD-Physician) or MBBS program in Russia. Russian medical schools offer MD degrees to successful candidates after the 6-year (5+1) system, along with completing the GOZZ exam.
GOZZ/GOSS exam can be conducted in English or Russian. It depends on the medical school, which would be the primary language of this exam, despite the medium of the instruction for the program. Medical Universities conduct this GOZZ exam. The Russian Federal Government or Ministry of Education has no role in it.
Written exam – You will have to answer multiple choice-based questions (MCQ), and all questions are to be attempted compulsorily.
Practical exam – In this part, you will be given the patient’s history with specific laboratory reports. You will have to diagnose the illness(s) and recommend the possible treatments to the patients. This is nothing but a patient-diagnosis test.
Viva-voce (Oral) exam – In this part of the exam, your medical skills and knowledge will be assessed and evaluated by the faculty including your verbal proficiency. This exam part mainly focuses on students’ medical knowledge.
This exam is different from the GOZZ exam. But the exam is also conducted in 3 steps, namely –
Online Exam – This part of the exam is fully online, consisting of 40 questions. You will have 800 Sample Questions for this online exam. Normally the questions are asked from this set of questions. 50% is the passing score for this exam. The exam is conducted once a year, mostly in June. This exam is conducted only in Russian.
Note: Medical Universities have been mandated to offer classes in medical terminology in Russian so that students get familiar with the Russian terminologies.
Clinical Skills Exam in Hospital – This part of the exam is similar to the GOZZ practical exam. The basic difference is – a doctor in a hospital takes this exam. Students get to see patient(s) diagnosis reports, history, symptoms, and pathological reports to identify the illness and suggest possible treatment plans.
Clinical Skills Exam Online – Again, this is similar to the practical exam, but the basic difference is – it is again an online exam where students only require answering 12 questions.
The best thing is – the exam(s) is conducted and supervised under strict surveillance. Normally, the result is declared 7 days after the exam is taken. Subsequently, the students are awarded a Medical License to practice in Russia. Afterward, you get a certificate and registration no from the Federal Agency. This is an important document that you are required to submit to NMC (National Medical Commission), India as your proof of registration to practice as a medical doctor in Russia.
