Overview

It is originally a medical school attached to the University of Saigon, founded in 1947 by French settlers during the French Indochina period. Professor C. Macias was the principal. It was located at 28 Testard/Tran Quy Cap Street, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City (now Bo Van Thanh Street). On August 31, 1961, under the jurisdiction of the Government of the Republic of Vietnam, the school was divided into two parts. Saigon Medical University and Saigon Pharmacy University. In 1964, Saigon Dental College was established as a department of the Faculty of Medicine. In 1976, after the Vietnam War, the Communist Party of Vietnam agency merged its three schools and gave them a new name: Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy. At the first headquarters, he had two floors of offices, a library, a conference room for lectures, and three adjoining residences for study. Basic science and basic medicine training sites were located around Ho Chi Minh City, including the Pasteur Institute (parasite and microbiological research), the Human Research Institute (anatomy), and the Saigon Hospital (chemistry). The Human Body Institute's facilities were used to study histology, physiology, disease, and anatomy. By 1961, medical and pharmacy students were studying at the institution. The Faculty of Pharmacy moved to Nam Kiko Igia Street. On November 16, 1966, the centre was moved to a well-equipped medical study centre (Hongbang Street, District 5), where medical and dental students are still studying. It has a 500-seat main auditorium, three 300-seat auditoriums, a library, and laboratories.
