Netherlands Education Types

If you want to study in the Netherlands, you need to understand the education types first. Higher education in the Netherlands is categorised into 2 main segments. One is Research University, i.e., WO and Universities of Applied Sciences, i.e. HBO. Both Universities offer UG and PG programmes in various fields, but doctoral programmes (PhDs) are primarily offered at research Universities.

Eligibility: Academic Prerequisites

To study in the Netherlands, you must show that you are eligible to study a bachelor’s or master’s programme in a college or University. The cost to study in the Netherlands depends on the city you live in and the University you choose to pursue your course. The average cost can be between euro 15,000 and 20,000 per year, or euro 800 to 12,000 per month. Leiden University Excellence Scholarship

This is one of the top scholarships targeting excellent non-European students pursuing a full-time master’s program at Leiden University. Visa Process

You must have a valid student visa if you want to move to the Netherlands for higher studies. There are 2 main types of student visas offered by the Netherlands government. One is a Schengen Visa, which is for short-term studies, where you stay in the Netherlands for less than 90 days. The other is an MVV or provisional residence permit, as well as a Residence Permit or VVR, which is applicable for longer-term studies, more than 90 days.
