The increasing popularity of medical aspirants is quite beneficial for our generation. It will generate more and more doctors in our nation. Studying for an MBBS comes with numerous challenges and opportunities globally. These days, students are turning towards MBBS abroad due to heavy competition and a lack of opportunities in India. Whether the students are opting for MBBS in India or Abroad, they must ensure to read all the NMC guidelines carefully and follow them. The NMC guidelines are the ultimate guide for medical aspirants. The National Medical Commission, popularly known as the NMC, was earlier renowned as the Medical Council of India.

Elevating NMC Guidelines for Medical Aspirants

The new NMC Guidelines came into existence in 2021, and its first guidelines were mentioned in the Gazette of India on 18th November 2021. These guidelines are required to be followed by Indian medical students to attain a valid and acceptable MBBS degree.

These NMC guidelines for MBBS are given below.

  • Duration of MBBS Course: The university must consist of the standard MBBS course duration, i.e., 54 months. This duration is extendable but cannot be shortened. Most of the MBBS Abroad duration is 60 months while the Indian duration in India is 54 months only.
  • Internship Opportunities: The internship duration of the MBBS course must not be less than 12 months. However, it is extendable, and Egypt consists of an extended internship duration of 24 months, which is valid as per the NMC guidelines for studying MBBS abroad.
  • Language of Education: Medical universities across the world should allow Indian aspirants to study MBBS in the English language,e which disables the language barrier for students at international universities.
  • University Recognition: Whatever university you are planning to study, it should be locally government authorized and well-recognized. The students must ensure they study MBBS at NMC-certified universities.
  • Medical License: Studying at a globally recognized and NMC-approved university enables students to get the medical license of the same country they are studying in. It is very important to get a medicine license in a foreign country to get a national medical license.
  • MBBS Curriculum: The MBBS curriculum should consist of the 19 subjects mentioned below.

These 19 subjects must not be eliminated from the MBBS curriculum as per NMC Guidelines to Study MBBS Abroad or in India. These are the fundamental subjects that allow students to attain similar educational approaches.

Eligibility Criteria as per the NMC Guidelines 2021

It is very essential to fulfil the eligibility criteria to get admission to the medical course either in Abroad or India. The eligibility criteria as per the NMC guidelines are given below.

  • Age: The Indian aspirants must possess the age of at least seventeen years while applying for the admissions.
  • Academic Requirements: The students should attain more than 50% score in the 10+2 mark sheet which may differ as per the reservation criteria. These 50% are the collective score of pre-medical subjects that are Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  • Entrance Exam: The NEET is considered the entrance exam for medical admission either in India or Abroad. However, the requirements for marks differ in variants. Abroad universities allow Indian students to get admission at the passing marks of the NEET while Indian universities ask for higher rankings.

The NMC Guidelines mentioned in 2021 are the ultimate guide for Indian students willing to study MBBS in India or Abroad. It allows medical aspirants to attain an acceptable MBBS degree. Indian students must follow the NMC Guidelines either appearing for MBBS Abroad or Indian education.
