Starting with the humble beginnings of providing training to budding teachers, Osh State Medical University, a major part of Osh State University, has become a major centre in Central Asia that offers medical education and global exposure with various clinical opportunities. Located in the city of Osh, Osh State Medical University offers a 5-year MBBS/MD degree programme (called General Medicine/Дарылоо иши). The university offers a separate 12-month clinical internship, which makes it one of the NMC-compliant universities in the medical education sector, making it a suitable choice for Indian students to pursue their MBBS in Kyrgyzstan.
Tracing its origins, Osh State Medical University started as the “Osh Pedagogical Institute” in 1939 to fulfil the demand for teachers. Under the regulations of the USSR, the Osh State Pedagogical Institute was established in 1951 and upgraded in 1992, becoming a full-fledged public university known as “Osh State University” by presidential decree. The university’s International Medical Faculty was established in 2015 to cater to students specifically aiming to pursue an MBBS abroad. The university has 10,000+ international students, among whom Indian students make up a significant portion. It features 8 institutes, 4 faculties, 10 dormitories, 18 sports complexes, and 2 in-house clinics.
