NEET UG 2024: Results, Controversy, And What’s Next Steps?

Table of Contents

The NEET result 2024 has been released. Many aspiring MBBS students have got their scores, enjoying themselves with friends and families, but many are doomed because of the results’ controversy.

Assuming you are an Indian medical aspirant and have cleared the country’s toughest exam. You must have come across the news of the controversy that has happened for the 1,563 candidates who were provided compensatory marks in the common UG MBBS entrance exam.

The Story Behind this Controversy

On the 13th of June 2024, the Union Government submitted to the Supreme Court of India that the scorecards of 1,563 candidates who were provided the compensatory marks in the NEET exam, the NEET UG 2024 held on 5th May 2024 stood canceled.

According to the Union Government of India, another test will be conducted on the 23rd of June 2024, and the results will be declared by the 30th of June 2024. Therefore, the counseling for seat allocations in different medical schools in India is expected to start by the 6th of July 2024.

The Union Cabinet of India has fallen into a controversy for canceling this exam. Students are saying it is the Union’s fault. When it has provided compensatory marks in the common UG MBBS entrance exam for those candidates, what is the worth of canceling the exam? This is true to some extent because the cabinet should have thought it before it provided the compensatory marks.

MBBS Aspirants Are Wanting Justice!

It has become a protest in some places, because of the admission time. Again, these candidates are required to appear for the NEET UG exam and score to get admission to the government or private medical colleges in India. This is mentally stressful and agonizing for many.

Notice Circulated By NTA (National Testing Agency)

When the results are out on the 30th of June 2024 according to the Union Cabinet, these 1,563 candidates who were provided compensatory marks will be informed of the actual score. This actual score will be sans the grace or compensatory marks. After that, they are free to choose to take another test. If these candidates opt not to sit for the re-exam, their NEET scores, without the grace or compensatory marks stand as the final score.

Hundreds of thousands of MBBS aspirants appear for this exam. They start their preparation early in their career. They dream of becoming doctors. If this happens, many students will give up appearing for the NEET exam and choose an alternative option.

Many Students Are Thinking Of Alternative Choice

Because the exam is one of the toughest in the country, and a limited number of seats are available in government medical schools. And the exorbitantly high tuition fees charged by the most private schools in India, many students move to study MBBS abroad.

These days, a great number of MBBS aspirants from India and other parts of the world are moving to foreign countries to study medicine. Millions of students are moving to Russia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Egypt, to name a few to study medicine. Many top medical colleges offer MBBS courses at the best costs and are far better than most private medical colleges in India and European medical schools.

What Supreme Court of India Notified?

Let’s come to the main discussion. Furthermore, the Supreme Court of India declined to halt the counseling and admission process for MBBS. It said if any of those 1,563 MBBS aspirants choose not to sit for the re-exam, their previous NEET exam scores, excluding the compensatory marks will be considered for final results.

In this case, candidates are in a dilemma; they don’t understand if they need to retake the exam or give up for this year. They don’t even know if they don’t retake the exam; their actual NEET scores will be sufficient to get into government medical colleges.

The re-exam for the NEET results 2024 will be declared on the 30th of June 2024. The center said the counseling for admission into MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other medical courses is expected to start on the 6th of July 2024.

NTA Raised Suspicions about the Irregularities

As many as 67 MBBS aspirants scored a perfect 720, without previous instance in the National Testing Agency's history, with six from a center at Faridabad, Haryana, India. Thus, it is figuring in the list, and raising suspicions about the irregularities.

Many students protested from Delhi NCR on the 10th of June 2024, seeking a probe into alleged irregularities that NTA has declared. Grace or compensatory marks for the NEET exam; have been contributed, alleged to those of 67 students sharing the top rank in the exam.

Final Verdict

The National Testing Agency conducts the NEET-UG exam for admissions to MBBS courses, and other related medical courses in government and private medical schools in India.

Now it is an option to take a NEET re-test on 23rd of June 2024. The decision is pending and it is up to Supreme Court’s decision. Many students are in a fix and don’t know what to do. Whether to re-take or not. This controversy shows the vulnerability of the current education system of the country.
