It offers a 6-year General Medicine (equivalent to an MBBS) programme titled “Medical Practice” (31.05.01), combining 5 years of studies, followed by a clinical internship in the final year. An affordable tuition fee of ₹5.3 lakh per year entices and makes it accessible to many Indian students who want to study MBBS in Russia. The programme is recognised by India’s National Medical Commission (NMC) due to its compliance with the FMGL Regulations and the university's inclusion in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS), which is associated with the World Health Organisation (WHO). Volgograd State Medical University gained an academy status in 1993, followed by the university status in 2003. The current director of the university is Professor Vladimir I. Petrov, a prominent figure in the Russian Federation, who has made significant contributions to the fields of pharmacology, clinical research, and public health. As a notable Academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, he is the reason behind VSMU’s global prestige. Awarded by the Honourable Order of the Red Banner of Labour, the university was one of the first institutions in Russia to offer opportunities for international students seeking an MBBS abroad. Some of the key facilities and resources students can utilise as part of their learning process include the University Clinic No. 1, the Family Medicine Clinic, the Center of Electronic Medical Education (equipped with high-tech simulation labs), and a vibrant, multicultural campus environment.
