Yaroslav-the-Wise Novgorod State University is one of Russia's greatest universities. The Yaroslav-the-Hungarian Pedagogical Institute and the Polytechnic Institute of Veliky Novgorod, which were Veliky Novgorod's two oldest higher education institutions, merged in 1993 to form the present-day Wise Novgorod State University, which is also referred to informally as NovSU. Subsequently, the Novgorod Agricultural Academy was incorporated into the university's framework.

Current scientific and educational institutions at Novgorod State University include the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the Institute of Humanities, the Institute of Electronic Information Systems, the Institute of Continuous Pedagogical Education, the Institute of Digital Economics, Management, and Service, and the Polytechnic Institute. Polytechnic, humanities, medical, and economic colleges are all part of the institution. At all levels, universities train higher education specialists such as bachelor's, master's, and PhDs. The institution provides 42 bachelor's programs, 17 master's programs, and four specialty programs.
